New York, N.Y. (June 18, 1996) -- Widening the market for 3M's LS-120 Diskette, O.R. Technology has announced the FD-3120A diskette drive. To be available from authorized distributors this month, the drive is based on the high-capacity LS-120 diskette technology jointly developed by Matsushita-Kotobuki Electronics, Ltd. (MKE), Compaq Computer Corp., O.R. Technology and 3M.

"We welcome O.R. Technology's commercialization of this LS-120 drive," said Ray Meifert, director of the PC Markets Segment, 3M Data Storage Products. "We feel that the backward-compatible LS-120 diskette technology is going to emerge as the next standard for diskette storage, and the availability of multiple drive sources is a key to establishing that standard."

O.R. Technology's FD-3120A drive features a slim, one-inch high form factor that can be configured for use in standard PC drive bays, making it an ideal form, fit and function replacement for current floppy disk drives. As an LS-120 drive, it can read and write existing 1.44 MB floppy diskettes. 3M manufactures and markets the 3M brand LS-120 Diskette, which holds 120 MB in a familiar, easy-to-use format. On July 1, 3M's data storage business will become part of Imation Corp., the new imaging and information company being spun-off from 3M.
